Mikey Squires earned EIWA Wrestler of the Week honors after claiming the 197 lb championship at the Patriot Last Chance Open.

Squires started the tournament by defeating his Big 10 opponent from Minnesota, Silas Dailey 7-5. That tough match was a primer for his semifinal match where he faced 2-time All-American No. 3 Steven Little from Little Rock. Facing the wrestler who defeated Bingamton AA and current assistant coach Lou DePrez in his final match as a Bearcat (at the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships), Squires got the first takedown with 44 seconds left in the first period to take a 3-0 lead. Little countered with a reversal at the start of the second, and after an escape from Squires, recorded a takedown to move ahead 5-4. Squires would register an escape before the end of the period to tie the bout at 5 heading into the third. The Bearcat then escaped Little four seconds into the third before successfully defending himself for the final 1:56 to get the win. Squires completed his run to claim the Patriot Open crown in an anti-climatic finals match where he defeated Bloomsburg's Wyatt Bush via a 15-1 major decision.

Binghamton coach Ryan LeBlanc says of Squires, "It was great to see Mikey break through, but it's not a surprise when you look at the way he lives his life and the level of commitment he brings every day."
