Jordan Soriano goes 5-0 at the NWCA Mid-Major National Duals
Jordan Soriano (141) shined at the Mid-Major Duals where he posted a 5-0 record during the two-day event. He was dominant on Day One when he pinned both of his opponents. The first pin came at the 4:19 mark, but it only took him 20 seconds to pin his Ohio University opponent his second match of the day!
On Day Two he helped Drexel to its third win of the tournament over Cal State Bakersfield, where he posting a hard fought 4-1 win over Santino Sanchez.
His second match of the day was the clincher for his Wrestler of the Week honors. Drexel faced highly ranked Northern Iowa in a clash of the second and third seeded teams in the tournament. Soriano was matched against No. 9 nationally ranked Cory Land. Land came out strong and took an early lead over Soriano, a lead Land held going in to the third period. In the final period, Soriano displayed outstanding conditioning and intensity when he wore Land down and scored the winning takedown late in the match! Unfortunately, Soriano's win over Land was not enough to propel Drexel to a win over Northern Iowa. The final team score was UNI 23, Drexel 16.
Soriano capped his day off with a 12-9 decision victory over Charles Curtis to help Drexel defeat No. Illinois 21-12. The Drexel victory over No. Illinois landed it third place in the team standings.
Drexel Head Coach Matt Azevedo said of Soriano, "It was great to see Jordan back to form. He was out there wrestling with a high pace, getting after it scoring points and doing what he does best."
