      *HOMER BARR, Penn State ‘51 won a PA state title in his only year of wrestling.  At Penn State he placed NCAA 4th, 3rd, 2nd with a 46-6 record and 22-1 in duals from 1949-1951. The five other losses were post-season against National finalists, three of them champions. Barr won two EIWA titles then lost 2-1 in the finals to Brad Glass, who edged him by 2-2 referee’s decision in the NCAA finals. 

      Barr later coached at Warren High before guiding State College High for 10 years to a 98-12 record, where his teams won 64 straight duals.  Homer coached five state champions before coaching at the U. of Massachusetts, where he won three New England titles and was named New England Coach of the Year. He was the first-ever president of the PA Wrestling Coaches Association, but died at age 48. Homer’s been inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (PA Chapter) for Lifetime Service, plus the District 6 and Clearfield County Regional Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Halls of Fame. He and wife, Blanche, raised four children.
